We are now in the 20’s.

Well, guys.

I was actually really ahead of the game. I had a really great post to share. And, well? Technology ate it! So I apologize for now, but I can give you something good: I’m coming back for 2020, but not quite the way I had planned it out for today. The intent was there. I had resolutions plans, a proper list of everything I was going to do. It’s not pretty, but here’s the gist of everything I meant to share:

2019: We renovated/replaced the east deck and finished the downhill path!

No more slivers! Bare feet are safe to roam these boards again! And did we ever enjoy this over the summer! Some cider, music, and conversation.
That treacherous slip and slide is gone forever! Hello beautiful!

In addition to these two major things, what I did in 2019… was sleep. And get fat with the artificial happiness that ice cream lends you. And I also worked my ass off at my dayjob. I felt like it was a wasted year in a sense, but those two aforementioned renovations were a big deal at least, and they look so good!

I did a lot of hard thinking this past year. What’s worth the energy. What’s not. I messed that up a bit, so the superstar this year is my husband. Thank you for being there for me, repairing things, digging, installing plumbing fixtures, listening to bad ukulele in the evenings, and all the other things. Special thanks also to his dad, who also helped with that path. But I definitely don’t want to accidentally let this year slip away from me so I’m not going to let it, if I can help it.

So anyway, I will give you a brief summary of my aspirations for 2020:

  1. A lot of hedges, borders etc: Lavender hedge along the veggie garden, grass & allium border along the new downhill path, some sweeping borders of lavender & campanulas in the south beds.
  2. The east garden (the side closer to the deck, on the downhill path) got a bit messed up in the path installation so I’m going to (re)move anything that is not a succulent, and replace with interesting hardy succulents and cacti. And for the bottom-most portion of this bed, where there was always a conglomerate of mis-matched annuals that I didn’t sell or find a use for, I will plant my herb garden. Right handy to the kitchen!
  3. A more purposeful veggie garden. Yes, you bet I’ve already made my plans and seed shopping list. I did that almost a week ago! I am going to try and set the intent to make sure I make the most of it this year. More tiny tomatoes, more carrots, and hopefully we will come up with an easier way to water it all… or just go out and do it.
  4. I’m going to spend more time in the garden enjoying it.
  5. I’m starting up a vlog on youtube. Hopefully it will be silly and weird, and not dry and crusty. I want to do this to document the progress as I go in a much more exciting way than sitting indoors typing and editing photos. But don’t worry, I’m still doing that too, for the time being!
  6. I want to start hybridizing violets so someday I can say, I have a registered cultivar of something that people in this world own and love. This is not a one year goal, but I want to start it this year.

This month, I haven’t got too many plans for around the property, so I’ll probably start puttering around in my shop. It’s tropical seeding season and I have a lot of violets in bloom that look like they need a little help getting pollinated!

Hey, would you look at that? I did come back today! It’s turning around already. –D
